About Open Research Network

ORN is a developing network for universities, labs, scientific groups, research software communities, and partners committed to open and collaborative research.

Open Research Network (ORN) exists to make collaboration easier for scientific communities. We connect people and organizations that want to share knowledge, infrastructure, tools, and opportunities in ways that strengthen open research.

Why ORN exists #

Research groups often face similar challenges: limited infrastructure, isolated projects, fragmented communication, and duplicated effort. ORN is designed as a shared space where universities, research centers, laboratories, scientific communities, open-source projects, and independent researchers can coordinate more effectively.

Instead of building a conventional internal team, ORN is focused on building a network: a trusted ecosystem of groups that can collaborate while keeping their own identity, priorities, and governance.

What we support #

ORN supports collaboration around:

  • open science and open-source research software;
  • shared infrastructure, reusable workflows, and community services;
  • research training, mentoring, workshops, and events;
  • publication, project, and opportunity discovery;
  • partnerships between academic, non-profit, public, and private organizations.

Our approach #

ORN grows through affiliation, partnership, and community participation. We aim to create conditions where scientific groups can work together with clarity, trust, and shared benefit.

Our work is guided by four principles:

  1. Openness — knowledge and tools should be easier to access, reuse, and improve.
  2. Collaboration — common research challenges are better solved together.
  3. Trust — transparent practices, clear expectations, and respectful spaces make collaboration sustainable.
  4. Impact — research infrastructure should help communities produce lasting scientific and social value.

A network, not a hierarchy #

ORN is not centered on a fixed team page or a single institutional group. The long-term goal is to build a network with universities, labs, scientific communities, open-source projects, and partner organizations that can contribute in different ways.

If your group shares these values, ORN can be a place to connect, collaborate, and make your work more visible within a broader open research ecosystem.
